Just for Laughs Festival / Juste Pour Rire
During a month of celebrations in the City of Montreal, more than 700 comedians from all over the world, come together to enliven the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival. This festival is considered to be one of the most important comedy festivals internationally. Performers put on more than 1500 shows including free outside performances, 1300 of which are presented to the public, completely free of charge, and street entertainers walk the streets entertaining and making visitors laugh.
What to Expect
There are theatre shows and galas presented through the entire city with the preferred performance area being the Latin Quarter. The Latin Quarter is an area in Montreal that is known for night clubs and live theatre venues. It also houses a large variety of restaurants, cafes and shopping. Performers vary from comedians to non-verbal acts as well as acrobats, pantomimes and an entire plethora of diversified comedic acts.
History and Facts
The world famous comedy festival Just of Laughs was first held in July 1983 and has been hosted in Montreal, during July ever since. It first began as a solely French event but soon grew to encompass English acts. The Montreal Just for Laughs Festival is famous for having launched the careers for many comedians and US based television shows including the Just for Laughs Gags first aired by ABS in the summer of 2007. This was pitched to the US audience as Just for Laughs.
